Ateshgah
RUAZENHE

Practical

Getting there

Ateshgah is in the town of Surakhani, about half an hour's drive from central Baku. It is easy to reach, and the place is well worth adding to a "Land of Fire" route.

The temple is on the Absheron peninsula, in Surakhani. It is most convenient to combine the trip with a visit to the burning hill of Yanar Dag — both fires lie on the same side of the city.

Getting there

The road to the temple

From central Baku to Surakhani is about 30 kilometres. You can go by taxi, on a tour or by car; many tours combine Ateshgah, Yanar Dag and Gobustan in a single day.

Seeing the temple itself does not take long, but it is worth walking the cells with their exhibitions and the courtyard with the altar without hurrying, to feel the atmosphere of the place.

Tips

To make the trip work

Combine with Yanar Dag
The burning mountain is nearby — it makes sense to see both fires in one trip.
Allow time for the cells
The exhibitions in the cells tell the temple's story — don't rush past them.
Check the hours
It is best to check the museum's opening times in advance, especially in winter.
Bring water and good shoes
The courtyard is open and hot in summer; comfortable shoes and water help.

It is best to check addresses, opening hours and routes before your trip: details may change.
